About Me!

I hope you enjoyed the show. Now, for a bit about the performer themselves. I'm Daryn, an eldritch creature who enjoys to occasionally crawl out of its cave to write stories. When I was a little creature floating in the cosmos, I liked to create imaginary worlds in my head, and then play pretend with my sister in those worlds. Now, she just reads the stuff I write, and is grateful it's fake.

I graduated from Chapman University with a BFA in Creative Writing and a minor from the Honors Program. I've interned with StoryWarrior LLC, Little Nalu LLC, and Study Breaks Magazine. I currently am employed at Ballast Books and their children's book imprint Blue Balloon Books as a Marketing and PR Assistant. I create graphics for their social media, write their weekly newsletter, craft pitches for our books to various media outlets, and find media contacts for upcoming releases. I've developed a real passion for kid's books and have now spent over a year of my career dedicated to kid's books specifically. I hope to make a life in kids publishing with all the skills in marketing, editing, and writing I've acquired thus far. I hope to only grow further from where I am now.
Before my current position, I worked an editorial/marketing internship at Platypus Media where I was responsible for similar things, along with reading and editing manuscripts. I was an editor on Ouroboros Magazine during my time at Chapman, and it taught me a lot about being an editor, and gave me an appreciation for reading the works of others.

I want to be a writer/editor for kid's books, though I'm also gaining more experience in marketing/PR by the day. I know that editing/writing is the dream of nearly every person with a degree in the English field, and I am happy to announce that I am no different. I would also be very amenable and happy with a career in marketing, as I've really learned the ins and outs of targeted media pitching and creating supplementary media to promote a book. I love reading the works of others and giving it my all to help them shine as much as I enjoy writing my own stories.

I hope you enjoyed my show, and that it brought a smile to your face. Please don't forget to tip your local performer on the way out...or at least check out their socials or their resume!
